“Stupendo fabulously fantastic performance”, and she takes a bow.
“Chummeshwari performance”, and he blows a kiss.
And, Mithunda gives his salute.
All these gestures are no less than a psychological torture while you are sitting quietly at your home watching TV that too on weekends. But judges are still bearable, what about the contestants? While we take a lot of time to digest slapstick nonsense comedy by extra-layered lady and hanger-stick man or ‘jhola chhap’ uncle, the contestants too are equally culprit in frying our brain and eating with forks.
The expressions of Govinda, the jumping of Jeetu, and signature steps by Bachchan are the matter of yesteryear. Today, we have excellent Tiger, mind blowing Rhithik, and stunning Shahid Kapoor – agreed. The present generation has defined the contemporary dance in their own way. But when it comes to Dance shows on Indian television, you first need to scratch our head to believe that yes, it is ‘dance!’
While some of the participants are good dancers, most of them appear like sacked employees from The Great Golden Circus. Summersaults, jumping, and yoga postures is what all they can do. Mostly they’d come in couple and the boy’s only job is to lift and play with his ‘doll’. He’d throw her in the air and catch, he’d pull or push her to or from between the legs. The couple would do everything except dance!
The ones who are to be blamed are the judges because they do all the gestures that promote and encourage the so called ‘jokers’ and ‘summersaulters’ to produce more dance (?) like that. If they want such a circus show, I bet if they give chance to local circus performers, they’d win the series and bring home trophies.
I have seen many performances of dancers who simply show ‘postures’ and not moves. Their dances are not a dance form any angle. As terrible as it could be, they add nonsensical remix where the song is completely ruined. Even further, it is not a surprise anymore that they’ll dance full energetically in slow song or even sad songs. Their hears are always out in the air and they catch them invisibly – this is the step that the circus jokers have in common.
Let’s improve the dance shows on Indian channels – give chances to circus and Olympic gymnasts and see their performance. Your monkeys are no match to the real heroes!
