Nagas Have China Option, Chance Of A Separate Flag For Nagaland

In a negotiation that was held in August, 2015 between NSCN-IM general secretary Thuingaleng Muivah and the government’s interlocutor R N Ravi in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Naga’s Demands

The government had already agreed on most of the demands.

Out of the 33 demands made by the NSCN-IM, one among the demand was a separate currency, which has been ruled out.

It may be possible that Nagaland one of the North Eastern state, may get it separate national flag.

VS Atem, an emissary of the NSCN-IM in the talks, had told HT earlier: “If Kashmir can have a separate flag, why not Nagas? China also has separate flags for Macau, Hong Kong and Taiwan.”

NSCN-IM has accused the Centre, it is delaying the agreement held between NSCN-IM and Centre.

As you all know that, the problem of Nagaland is a decades-old issue, that has not been settled yet, and said “the China option” is open.

“It is only after we went to China, that India woke up. Will India wake up only if the Naga army starts doing that again?” Shimrang was quoted as saying to “The Week”.

Nagaland may get greater power as it is said that certain items are likely to get transferred from the Central and Concurrent list of the Constitution to the State list.

It will help Nagaland take some decisions unilaterally without the concern of India.

The peace accord is more likely to be discussed in the parliament and few clauses require the sanction of parliament.

“Sovereignty, special privilege to safeguard the traditional and cultural rights of Nagas and their History” requires parliamentary sanctions.

Nagaland is governed under Article 371 A

At present Nagaland is governed under Article 371 A, special status of the Constitution of India to Nagaland as the partial fulfilment of the 1960’s agreement which later created in 1963  , and this Article gives Nagas the right over their land and resources.
