How to Work Around a Broken Keyboard on Windows 10

For so many of us out there, a lot of our work is centered around our laptops and computers. If we find it broken down, which is not so uncommon, it is not so hard to understand the inconveniences we have to face.

Therefore, what happens if the keyboard breaks? Do we just stop working too? Absolutely not! If you are here to find your way around your laptop without depending too much on your keyboard, then you have done the right thing. Read on and learn how to work around a broken keyboard on Windows 10.

Solutions to work around a broken keyboard

If you find your keyboard broken, there are several things that you can do. We have listed down the most efficient methods and solutions for your problems. to work around a broken keyboard Let us get started.

Swap keycaps

The first thing that you can try and do is swap the keycaps with another one. A keycap is a plastic covering over the key mechanisms that you press down.

If your keycap is broken, then you can simply swap it in with another less-used keycap. The labeling will not be right, but you can relabel it or just put a sticker on top of it.

To swap one keycap with another one, gently pop open the keycap with a screw-driver. Try not to put in too much pressure as the keycaps are delicate and may break easily. Once the cap comes off, which they do easily, swap it with another cap. Push it gently, and it will snap into place, all ready to use.

Remapping the keys

Another solution for you is to remap the broken keys. There is a lot of software out there that you can use for remapping. Here is what you will have to do to remap:

  • Once you have the software installed and launched, open ‘Keyboard Manager’ and select ‘Remap a Key.’
  • Once the new window opens, add a shortcut by selecting the ‘+.’
  • The next thing you have to do is to define the key that you will be remapping. From the left side, you will find a drop-down menu. You need to select the key that has broken down.
  • The following thing you need to do is select the key with which you will swap the broken key. You can do this under the ‘Map To’ section by selecting the designated key.
  • Once you are done selecting, click the ‘Done’ button.
  • Your keys have been remapped. Now, try it out to see if it is working or not.

Other repairs

If your key is broken, and instead of replacing it with another keycap, you would prefer having a new keycap, you can easily get them online or in electronics stores.

However, if the problem is bigger than a broken keyboard, you can easily call in a mechanic to have your keyboard repaired. An expert will be able to help you better than trying to fix the keyboard yourself.

Invest in a new keyboard

Sometimes, the damage is more serious than it seems. If there are serious internal issues in your keyboard where a repair will be too expensive, you can buy a new keyboard instead.

It will be better to invest in a new keyboard instead of repairing it at a higher cost because it is often observed that the device may malfunction even after a repair.

So, there you have it, your solutions to still work at your device even when your keyboard is broken. We hope that with this article, we could help you solve your problems.
